1. What does ecoPrint2 Standard: Ink and Toner Saver do?

2. What are the system requirements?

Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista (32 bit) or Windows 7
RAM: 256 MB minimum
Hard Drive Space: Minimum of 5 MB for installation

As a background application, ecoPrint2 has a small memory footprint, but can be easily shut down and prevented from loading at startup if memory usage is of great concern.

5. How do I install ecoPrint2 ink and toner saver?

Download the file 'ecoPrint2InkandTonerSaverEng.zip' from the Download page and unzip it. Double-click on the installation file inside, 'ecoPrint2InkAndTonerSaverEng.exe', to start the installation. Follow the onscreen instructions and our installation guide will do the work for you.

6. How do I run ecoprint2 ink and toner saver?

If you are not using ecoPrint2's 'Automatically run at Windows startup' feature, it should be can in the Start Menu under the 'ecoPrint2 Ink and Toner Saver' folder as 'Run ecoPrint2 Ink and Toner Saver'. Watch for the leaf icon in the system tray (system tray icon) – if it is visible, ecoprint2 is running and ready to go.

If you do not have ecoPrint2 automatically running at Windows startup and wish to enable the feature, right-click on the system tray icon and select the menu option 'Automatically run at Windows startup'.

7. How do I buy a copy of ecoPrint2 Ink and Toner Saver?

8.How do I activate my copy of ecoPrint2 Ink and Toner Saver?

Software Activation

The Activation box can be found by right-clicking the system tray icon (system tray icon) and choosing the top menu item, 'Product Activation'.

To unlock your program, type your license key into the specified field. The 'Register' button will become clickable upon entering a valid license key.

9. How do I adjust my ink usage settings?

When you first enter the Ink/Toner Saving Options panel, make sure that the checkbox labelled 'Enable Ink/Toner Saving' is checked. This will unlock the slider bar. By sliding it to the left or right, you can increase and decrease the percentage of ink saved during printing – the percentage is shown in the box labelled 'Ink/Toner saving ratio'. If you would prefer to adjust the ink ratio using numbers, you can also type the percentage you want into this box. When you are satisfied with your ratio choice, click the menu labelled 'Type of Printer' and choose one according to what kind of printer you are planning to use ecoPrint2 with (4 colour inkjet, laser, etc).

Once you are finished adjusting these parameters, click the 'Apply' button at the bottom of the panel. This will enable the settings you have chosen so you that can use them immediately.

10. How do I use the Savings Calculator?

Saving ink and paper means you also save money. With ecoPrint2 Ink and Toner Saver, you can track approximately how much you are saving.

If your printer uses a combined black/color ink cartridge:
  1. In the 'Set Price' column, enter the cost of your ink/toner cartridge. (e.g. $34.99)
  2. Estimate how much of the ink cartridge you will use in a month and enter this in the 'Cartridge Used/Month' box in the 'Set Price' column. (For example, if you use one ink cartridge every 2 months, you would enter .5 in this box.)
  3. Click [OK] to save your settings.
If your printer uses separate cartridges for black and colored inks:
  1. In the 'Black' column, enter the cost of your black ink cartridge only. (e.g. $15.97)
  2. Estimate how much of the ink cartridge you will use in a month and enter this in the 'Cartridge Used/Month' box in the 'Black' column. (For example, if you use one ink cartridge every 4 months, you would enter .25 in this box.)
  3. Enter the cost of your color ink cartridge in the 'Color' column.
  4. Add the estimated usage amount in the 'Cartridge Used/Month' box in the 'Color' column.
  5. Click [OK] to save your settings.

Each time you print with ecoPrint2 Ink and Toner Saver, your cost savings are calculated based on the price and usage information you entered. Automatically calculated savings include:

  • Yearly ink/toner savings – The "Ink/Toner Cost/Year" box.
  • Monthly dollar amounts saved – The "Saved cost/Month" box.
  • Yearly dollar amounts saved – The "Save cost/Year" box.

11. What are Profiles, and how can they be used?

Profiles are ink/toner saving settings that you can save for future use. This is particularly useful if you have more than one preferred ink-saving setting or have more than one type of printer on your network (i.e. an inkjet and a laser printer) and wish to save ink on both. You can save up to 100 different profiles and access the list from both the main options window and the system tray icon menu (system tray icon)

To create a profile, adjust the ink-saving settings like you normally would. After you are done, enter a name for your profile into the text box beside 'Profile' and click 'Save'. This should save your profile into the list and will allow you to access that profile from Profile drop-down menus.

Removing a profile is just as easy – select the profile you would like to delete from the Profile menu in the Options panel, and choose 'Delete'.

12. How do I customize and print watermarks?

To create a custom watermark, right-click the ecoPrint2 Ink and Toner Saver tray icon [(system tray icon)] then select "Watermark Settings" and the Manage Watermarks window will appear.

Next, select "Add" to open the Watermark Settings window

In "Format:", type in the word or phrase you want as the watermark to print. You may also choose to insert the 'User name', 'Computer name', 'Document name', 'Printer name', and 'Ink/Toner saving percentage' by clicking on 'Insert' and choosing the option.
Then select the font and size of the text, orientation and opacity of the watermark.
To specify the orientation of the watermark, select where you would like the first letter to begin by its (x, y) coordinates, then specifying the angle.
For example, if you set the x-axis: 0.00 and y-axis: 0.00 then degree: 45°, the watermark will read from left to right, angling up to the top right corner. If you check 'Auto fit', your watermark will automatically fit across the page.
Enter the name you want to save your watermark as in "Name", then click 'Apply' to save your custom watermark, then click 'OK'.

The Watermarks Settings window is now updated with your newly added watermark. To use a watermark, check the box next to the watermark you want to use, then click 'OK'.

From the Watermarks Setting window, you can add another watermark by clicking 'Add', or edit the currently selected watermark by clicking 'Edit'.
You can also preview the document with the added watermark by clicking on 'Preview' where you can select the paper size to view as.

13. How do I print a test page?

To Print a Test Page, open the "Ink/toner Saving Options" window either by clicking on 'Start' -> 'All Programs' -> 'Ink and Toner Saving Settings' OR by right-clicking on the ecoPrint icon in the system tray [(system tray icon)] and selecting 'Ink and Toner Saver Settings'.

Click 'Test Print' and the following "Print" window opens. Select the printer and the number of copies to print, then click 'Print'. If you are printing with a laser printer and have not discovered which resolution option works best for your printer, print two test pages, one with Option A and the other Option B to compare which option yields the best print.

14. What's the difference between the two "Laser Quality Settings" ?

The two Laser Quality Settings are two standard laser printer resolutions.
This option is found in the 'Ink/Toner Saving Options' window

  • Laser Quality Settings
  • If your printer is a laser printer, you will need to select either Setting 1 or 2.
    Typically, Setting 1 is compatible with most laser printers, but if you find that the quality of print is not high enough, then choose Setting 2.
